Boys Cross Country Wins State Championship
The boys Cross Country team successfully defended their State Championship in dominating fashion on Saturday at Heathwood Hall. The Falcons defeated the runners-up, a tough Heathwood Hall squad, by a convincing 21 points in route to their second consecutive title.
It was the ultimate team win as the Falcons placed six runners in the top 11 and had the tightest 1-5 spread of any team in the field. The team was led by duo Camden Abrams and Samari Van Horn who both ran personal records of 17:09 to score 4th and 5th respectively. Sophomore John Davis outkicked a runner at the line to finish in 7th place with a time of 17:29. Senior team captain Henry Long finished with a time of 17:34 to finish 9th and the top 5 was rounded out by Junior Jacob Sark who ran a personal best of 17:51 to take 10th. Jackson McCrudden and Mason each ran tough races and helped the Falcons to victory.
Coach Fisher attributes the win to the team first culture that has been instilled by senior captains Henry Long and Mason Harmon. “Every man was racing his heart out for their teammates, and that is a testament to the culture that Henry and Mason have created. There are no selfish individuals on this team. Just a team.”
Despite losing Henry and Mason, the Falcons return five of their top seven runners and are expecting to bring back a stronger and faster squad next season. Coach Fisher has a message for all Falcons, “If you want a shot at winning another State Championship next season then come out and see what Ben Lippen Cross Country is all about!”
