Falcons News · New Sailing Club Coming!

If you enjoy being on the water or simply learning a new skill, we’re excited to announce a new club sport coming to Ben Lippen this fall. We will be forming a coed sailing team in partnership with the Columbia Sailing Club. It’s available to all 9th-12th graders. Most participants will have little or no experience in racing, so don’t hesitate to join even if you have never sailed before. Because it’s a club sport, there will be a participation fee of $330. This fee includes transportation to the sailing club from school, access to the boats, and the oversight of experienced coaches (life jackets will be the responsibility of each participant). This year we will be limited to 16 students. Practices will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6pm. Parents will be responsible for pickup at the Sailing Club near Lake Murray Dam after practice at 6pm. Due to Covid-19 there will unfortunately not be any regattas held this fall for SCISA, but we will be able to do inter-squad competitions to gain much-needed experience. If you’re interested, keep an eye out for a “420” sailboat parked on campus the week of Aug 17-21. There will be a signup list at Coach Glenn’s office that week as well. We’ll host a virtual parents’ meeting on Monday evening, Aug 24th at 7:00pm for people who have an interest. Practice will begin on August 31. Please feel free to email Jason Blackwell at jason@columbiasc.younglife.org for additional information.
