Multiple Teams · Coach Sue Dillon Named Head Varsity Volleyball Coach

My name is Sue Dillon and I am over the moon excited to be hired as the Volleyball Program Director and Varsity Coach for Ben Lippen! God truly works in mysterious ways as I have been so restless concerning my high school coaching career the last couple of years and now I know why! God was leading me here to Ben Lippen. Coach Glenn and I had an instant connection as I loved his philosophy of raising up strong, Christian young people and athletes. I look forward to leading this program to new heights!

I have been playing volleyball since I was 14 years old when my father put up a net in our backyard. Back then, there were not as many volleyball opportunities as there are today. I played at Iroquois High School in Elma, New York from 1979-82 and then at D’Youville College, a small school in Buffalo, NY from 1982-84. Over the years, I have won many outdoor grass and sand tournaments including a grass national doubles championship in 1999. I still play competitively in outdoor tournaments on occasion.

My coaching career started in 1995 at Brookland Cayce when a good friend of mine asked me to come and coach the JV team. I have been coaching as much as possible ever since. For the past 15 years, I have been the Director of Lake Murray Volleyball Club. This is a local travel club. We are very proud of the culture we have built for our club and have been extremely successful. I have been blessed to coach some amazing elite teams over the past 4 or 5 years, all of them being in the top 6% or better in the country! We have earned a lot of gold medals together but more than that, we have grown as individuals. The thing that I am most proud of, however, is the relationships that have been formed with my players over my many years of coaching. It is so rewarding to see your athletes go out into the real world and become successful adults. It is a thrill to receive wedding invitations and baby shower invites from them as well. The X’s & O’s of coaching is the easy part. Teaching character, integrity, mental toughness, fortitude and grace is the harder part, but the one that enjoy the most. I am also the Chairman of the Board for the Palmetto Volleyball Association (PVA) as well as the Outdoor Juniors Coordinator for PVA. I have been running my own outdoor tournaments (Pafukas Grass Doubles) for the past 16 years. I have also been an invited guest coach by ICRC (Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission) to run a series of indoor camps over the spring & summer the last six years at Seven Oaks Park. I am also a certified official and scorekeeper for USAV (United States Association of Volleyball). Basically, if there is something happening with volleyball in South Carolina, I probably know about it. I am able to do all of this with volleyball because I am blessed with a wonderful husband, Mike, who supports my passion. I have been a stay-at-home mom for most of my life excluding about 10 years after my kids graduated high school. I have 3 great kids, Michael 32, Erin 29, and Sean 27. I am currently a stay-at-home grandma for my 3 beautiful grandchildren, Devin 7, Austin 5, and Michael 2. All 3 of my kids still coach and play as well. We are truly a volleyball family. I look forward to working with our Ben Lippen athletes to help them grow further in their Christian faith and help them develop into the very best volleyball players they can be!
